Structural steel, bolt and layout math. Use the tabs below to switch between working calculators and quick field-reference material.

Field-reference aid. Use approved drawings, current codes/standards, manufacturer data and job-specific procedures for final decisions—especially for lifting, electrical, pressure, fire-protection and life-safety work.

Steel density

Use about 490 lb/ft³ for carbon-steel field estimates.

Bolt circles

Equal bolt spacing angle = 360° ÷ number of holes.

Diagonal check

For square/rectangular layout, diagonal = √(length² + width²). Equal diagonals help confirm squareness.

Erection work

Connection details, bolt installation and structural requirements come from the drawings, specifications and governing standards.
